DISC ONE 1 - PULMONARY FUNK band: THE SOX It was customary for THE WET SOX and THE SOX to open their shows with PULMONARY FUNK. For this reason, we place this version out of chronological order, in this collection. THE SOX had not planned to record this song, but tape was rolling as they warmed up with this, before recording other original songs (which appear later). This recording could be heard on the answering machine at TeleMusic. 2 - MAKE IT RIGHT band: THE WET SOX This song was the first victim of a WET SOX music video. This recording was captured at an early live performance, at Bogarts (a nightclub formerly known as The Establishment and later to be known as The Launch Site). To this day, the video remains under lock and key. (Actually, it doesn't, the video is available for viewing on this web site.) 3 - WE GOTTA GET OUT OF THIS PLACE band: THE WET SOX These were probably the first songs that gave fans a clue as to the twisted nature of this band. 6 - THE COOLEST SPOT band: THE WET SOX Studio sessions were rare and this was the first of four. 10 - EAST RIVER band: THE SOX This was a live recording extravaganza, with video cameras and everything. The first set was a "soundcheck" set and was recorded on cassette because, in those days, $25 was too much money to spend on an extra reel of tape. 12 - I HEAR YOU KNOCKING band: THE SOX More of the "live recording extravaganza." Track 14 is the song that gets this CD set an "R" rating, but no Sox compilation would be complete without it.

DISC TWO 1 - DREADLOCK HOLIDAY band: THE SOX These two recordings were made a week before THE SOX returned to Portales and won the" ENMU Battle of the Bands." THE SOX won all four "battle of the bands" that they entered in the summer of 1982. 3 - MEMPHIS, TENNESSEE band: THE SOX MEMPHIS, TENNESSEE finds THE SOX unaware of rolling tape (at 7.5 i.p.s.), warming up for the session. This is the second time in the studio. 8 - A band: THE SOX "A" is the first part of "SUITE: A/B" In the KOBAYASHI MARU days, Steve would perform this part solo (simply guitar-synth and vocal). This is a rare recording with the entire band playing on this part of the suite. 9 - B band: KOBAYASHI MARU "B" is the second part of "SUITE: A/B" 11 -PINK PANTHER band: KOBAYASHI MARU This was their second time out as KOBAYASHI MARU, having first played a week earlier, also at Smugglers. They performed as a three piece, with Steve, Waldo and John, as it would be weeks before adding Arnold and Kanoa to the lineup. Since this was the last night Smugglers was open, they were confident that they would never be able to book another gig... They were wrong. 12 - D-I-V-O-R-C-E band: KOBAYASHI MARU Country music, done tongue-in-cheek, was not a foreign concept to these guys. 15 - DARKEN DOWN band: KOBAYASHI MARU

DISC THREE 1 - SHE SAID band: KOBAYASHI MARU If youre counting, this was the third of four times in the studio. The mix heard here is actually a rough mix recorded at the end of the day-long tracking session. The recording was never finished. 2 - PULMONARY FUNK band: KOBAYASHI MARU Another rendering of the classic SOX song. 3 - MOMMA band: KOBAYASHI MARU There was quite a bit of video recorded of THE WET SOX and THE SOX, but only two video recordings of KOBAYASHI MARU and none of the RULIN COOLIES. This recording was from one of only two live recordings made with the higher quality VHS HiFi audio. 4 - BLUE HEARTS band: THE RULIN COOLIES THE RULIN COOLIES gathered to play live-in-the-studio for this fourth and final studio outing. This is the last time Steve, Waldo and Arnold played together... or is it? We could tell you what became of those guys, but that wouldnt be as interesting as the music they made together in the eighties. 13 - GIRL U WANT band: THE SOX THE SOX frequently ended their shows with GIRL U WANT, so we once again detour from chronology to wrap up this collection.
